Very DryAug 14, 2010 Just camped in Smoky Mountains with Copper Canyon 1512 for 4 nights. First time using this tent. Had a Coleman tent that I finally replaced after 25 years. This tent was gift. Coleman was great!! but after a bunch of duct tape over a hole, time to replace.
This tent is very easy to put up and very big. For the tent pads, it was a little too big, the tent pads were 13 by 13, so the tent was over on one side.
Rained very hard one night and we were perfectly dry! Others in campground were not as lucky. Smokemont in Smokies was very muddy and wet. Very impressed that we were dry. I sealed some seams but didn't have time to do fly, and it didn't seem to matter. Tent worked great in steady, multiple downpours in a 12 hour period.
What I especially liked was the screened top. The 2 nights we had no forecast for rain, we removed the tent fly and tent cooled very quickly. That is really nice. You can sleep inside looking out to the sky. My kids loved this.
The one bad part is the floor. I was disappointed when I first put it up and saw that the floor was same material as walls. I purchased a ground cover AND a tarp for inside. Might be overkill and definitely adds $60 to cost for tent. But seems worth it. Since tent was gift, I was already keeping the tent. Used -> [...] (company in PA). use brown heavy duty for ground cover and green for inside tent. Tarp ordered on weekend and arrived tuesday.
Another suggestion, was I purchased a heavy duty bag from Cabelas. Purchased the 18 by 36 inch Cabela's Heavy Canvas Duffel Bags and everything in tent fits and much, much easier to pack.
Best family camping tent yet!Aug 01, 2010 I have been tent camping for 40 years and I thought the rip stop nylon and shock cord dome tents were the end all, be all for tent camping but I hated the dome wherein you really could only stand in the center. This tent utilizes the best of both worlds, rigid poles for vertical walls and the shock cord poles for the roof support giving you a very usable floor to ceiling, true to sixe 15x12 tent. I have been using this tent for 3 years. Like the other reviewers said, the tent poles are cheap but who uses them, I have always bought the 3/8 aluminum steaks and use them for tents, Ez-ups, tarps, dog lead hold down, etc. The floor cover is highly recommended. I have not used a cover and my floor shows it, after I get done with this review I am going to try and find one on-line.
Bottom-line, it's the best family tent I have ever used, and the best designed tent I have ever seen.
FantasticJul 28, 2010 We used this tent for 6 days in Michigan and have nothing but great things to say about it.
We did a dry run at home when we bought the tent, including the canopy we bought with it. It took about 20 minutes in a mild breeze. At the campsite, it was up in about 15. I also put it up at home after we got back by my self, it took about 20 minutes. It seemed awkward placing the first few poles but by the time I popped in the fourth pole it stood up fairly straight (it has six poles).
The size is one of this tent's best features. The 1512 is a true 15'x12' tent, as advertised. We had a queen size air mattress, two side tables, a 48 by 22 inch table the two dog's sleeping beds and we had more than enough room to sleep 2 additional people. I am 6 feet tall and can walk any where in the tent with out hitting my head!
Every wall has a screen for plenty of ventilation and the ceiling is mostly screen.
Although I am not sure how well this would do in the cold it works nicely in 85 degree weather.
The tent comes with a room divider and gear stow. We did not use these as we wanted to take advantage of the entire floor area.
Unfortunately, the weather was horrible during our trip. Each evening included wind with heavy gusts up to 40 miles per hour but with the fly tie downs the tent stood strong. We used four corner guy lines (6 are provided with the tent) and staked all loops. We had heavy rain four of six days mostly in the evening and even had flooding of 2 to 3 inches of water for several hours at a time. Amazingly the tent never leaked through the floor. We literally walk on the floating floor and it looked like a water bed with 2 inches of water under it! We only had a couple of spots of water were the zippers came together. Considering how bad the wind blew (the rain was almost side ways at times) the tent performed spectacularly.
We are very happy with it and look forward to using it in nicer weather.
I would highly recommend this tent
FLOOR MATERIAL IS VERY POOR QUALITY!Jul 08, 2010 Today is July 08/10, I normaly don't write a review, but have to do it for this Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 Twelve-Person Tent. The tent itself and all space inside is great, very roomy. But we're very very disappoited with the floor; the material is CHEAP! With the price that we had pay for this tent, I would expected more if not the same quality material for the floor than other brand name tents that we've own. We bought Eureka Copper Canyon 1512 though Amazon a few months ago, just opened and used it for the very first time when we went to South Lake Tahoe the weekend just pass for 4 of July camping trip and experience a huge issue with the tent's floor. With the tarp down on the ground and NO SHOE alow inside the tent and the floor still rips apart (luckily no rain the entire time we were in Tahoe 7/3 - 7/8/10.) In the way, its my fault for trusted the name and quality of the company of "EUREKA" which I should not. Wish I could turned the time back when the tent just arrived to check it out before 30 days return policy expired. If this tent is $100.00, I will properly let it go, but since its kind of pricy for what it is truly worth so I think I will contact either Amazon or Eureka's customer service to see what they will acommodate with this matter.
Please improve a few things Eureka!Jul 04, 2010 I just recently purchased this tent after a tremendous amount of time and online reviews. I chose this tent since it had a lot of room, quality and satisfied customers for the money. The truth is, if you look at a lot of tent reviews, they are mostly positive. I attribute this to the users-camping is fun! So if people enjoy their camping trip and have a great time-they will give credit to their tent too...
When I got this, I decided to set it up in our back yard and let the kids sleep in it the first night. Ideal condition-nice weather and the tent set on a perfectly cut, level smooth lawn. I set the ten up according to direction, and when raising the tent one of the elbows snapped! Not sure if this was a weak link, but it was not forced very hard and seem to break from the weight of the tent being raised.
The other big issue is the FLOOR. It is made of the same materials as the walls. I read other users comment on this and bought a heavy duty tarp and put it under the tent. Well after one night of expected use including a 4 and 7 year old who took their shoes off inside the tent, I discovered a tear on the floor! Again no stick or stones underneath..
Yes, there are many great qualities that I agree with in the other reviews, but come on! I really don't want to spend my camping vacation worrying about repairs with duct tape and patches. This problems arose with very light use. I will contact customer service and see how they handle it...
