great camera for beginners, users. . . and even if ya can buy betterAug 31, 2010 Not the best, but for the cost it takes great pics at good distance. I would buy another one of these, other camera's at this price are very sketchy, and this one isn't the easiest to play with but it more than gets the job done.
Now, keep your receipt for Moultrie, any problems got to have it... and good luck.
I've had 3 for two years and like them alot.

Great Trail Cam For The PriceAug 28, 2010 This is actually the first product review I have ever left, and I wanted to address some other reviews that I read before buying the I40. First the reason why I gave it 5 stars is mainly because of the price. For less than $150 this thing has outperformed my expectations. Enough that I just bought a second one today.
After having this cam out for one week, I got 130 pics with deer in 3/4's of them set up with the 3 shot burst. I have it set up over a salt lick and poured a liquid mineral supplement over the lick. Obviously a good set up where there is already deer sign around is essential. I love all of the data it provides with the pics; date, time, temp, moon phase, camera ID and the laser positioning tool.
To address some negative feedback from other reviews: This thing does take mostly inferred pics even during the day alot of times, but I don't mind this at all. I can always clearly see what is in the picture and picture quality overall exceeded my expectations.
Yes the mounting brackets are hard plastic and you have to be a little gentle with it, but what do you expect for less than $150. If the thing was made out of aluminum or metal it would cost 2 or 3 times as much. I have no problem securing the cam to the tree, and i use a cheap bike lock for security. There are extra holes for the lock in the back.
I do get some "white" pictures when it's dusk, but I can also still always see what's in the "white" pictures.
The laser beam positioning tool really doesn't work in the daylight, but what do you expect in daylight no laser does. I set my camera up at dusk and the laser dot sticks out easily at this time.
The minimum delay that the 3 shot burst can be set to is 1 min. However this doesn't mean that it's 1 minute between each picture, like most reviewers seem to think. After using the camera and looking at date/time stamps, I noticed that It's 1 minute between the first and last picture. It's only 25 or 30 seconds between pics which I think is perfect.
Warning: Do not buy the black SDHC card that Amazon recommends with the cam, this camera only uses regular SD cards NOT SDHC. My blue 2GB SanDisk SD cards work great. I use my digital camera for immediate viewing, clearing the card, or drag and drop into my computer.
Awesome Game CameraAug 18, 2010
I bought this digital trail camera 12 months ago to use it on my farm to see what wildlife was in the area. Initially, I did encounter a problem with the I 40 camera. The problem was with the LCD screen on the front. After I replaced the batteries the first time, after 4 months, I went to replace the batteries since they were dead. When I put in new batteries, the LCD screen was not fully viewable. I contacted Moultrie and sent this unit back and they sent me a new camera. As it turns out, the older model that I had, had this known technical issue and they replaced it.
My new camera works great! The picture quality is excellent (night and day shots) for a 4 megapixel camera. This camera took over 1600 pictures of wildlife that gathered around my camera during that time frame as well.
I recommend!
Works but motion sensor is weakAug 02, 2010 I've had it up and working for a about a month now and have had mixed results. The field of view with the camera is much wider than the motion detector can detect. I'm getting more hind ends than actual full animals. It seems that the lag time between the motion sensor picking up the passing animal and the time the camera takes the picture is too long. The motion sensor is not very sensitive either. I had my 5' tall daughter walk by about 20 feet away and it didn't snap her picture until she was 3/4 the way through the field of view. It does do a good job if you point it down the trail so the animal will be coming at or walking away directly from the camera. The pictures are sharp and clear, and battery life is excellent, but it's no trade off if it won't take the picture with the animal in the field of view.
